On Saturday 13th May 2017, Lee Thornton and his rehomed Pointer Maeve, will participate in a new running challenge – the ‘Llangollen Round’ in order to raise much need funds for Pointers In Need.
The 33 mile run challenge called the Llangollen Round will be completed with his dogs Bella (English Springer Spaniel) and Maeve, who is of course was rehomed with the help of Pointers In Need.
“Its basically a 33 mile endurance event that is broken into stages. At each staging post, I will have a friend acting as our support team who will be checking on the dogs, swapping them over, taking them home for a rest.”Explained Lee Thornton.
Maeve will be doing the first stage of 7 miles and the last stage of 4.2 miles. Bella will hopefully be completing the other 21.8 miles, depending how she copes on the day.
“The three of us have been training hard for over a month now and so hopefully, we will be fine on the day.” said Lee.
THE LLANGOLLEN ROUND – RUN CHALLENGE is a one day supported run following the 33 mile circular trail above the Vale of Llangollen. The route involves 5303ft of ascent and represents an exhilarating, challenging excursion for those that take it on. The scenery is incredibly varied and spectacular – you’ll take in lofty ridges, rolling hills, swathes of heather moorland and cross a world heritage landmark in addition to a lovely 17th century bridge over the River Dee. It will be one to remember.
The route is broken up into 5 stages:
> PONDEROSA TO CARROG STATION – 7 MILES
> CARROG STATION TO GWERNANT – 10 MILES
> GWERNANT TO PANORAMA – 6.8 MILES
> PANORAMA TO WORLDS END – 5 MILES
> WORLDS END TO PONDEROSA – 4.2 MILES
At each station we will be met by a support team to rehydrate and refuel, and in our case check on the dogs.
Please sponsor Lee, Bella and Maeve for their 33 mile journey. You can support Lee, Bella and Maeve by making a donation.
